Forest of Dean Field Trip – May 22nd – 26th 2023

 

Monday 22nd May          9am depart Moulton College drive to Hillcrest Hostel, St Braivels, Forest of Dean -  Check-in Camp Hillcrest, St Braivels – orientation of facilities and unpack

 

PM Drive to Symonds Yat – Peregrines, goshawks, river wye – go on the Symonds Yat walk, hand ferry – Biblins bridge

Afternoon Symonds Yat walk, SAC, history, river wye, bats, boar, endemic whitebeam, Doward,  dropping well, caves

 

 

Tuesday 23rd May           Forestry day - reintroduction, forestry management       

AM – Reintroductions of pine marten and beaver – see soft release and discuss impacts on environment, flood management, grey squirrel impacts, impacts of reintroduction on woodland management biodiversity/conservation/recreation and forestry

 

PM – Forest management – commercial, impacts on conservation and recreation – the three pillars of forest and woodland management, pests and diseases, SSSI/SAC,  boar, bats, deer and the reintroductions from different perspective

 

Wednesday 24th May    Rewild day - Scot - social forestry, community projects, coppicing, agroforestry, make something          

A day with the Rewild project looking at and participating in social forestry, various community projects, coppicing and its revival (economics/conservation and woodland management), agroforestry and opportunity to make something wood craft, heritage skills

 

Thursday 25th May         Bream Sands for the day              

 

Day at the beach to look as beach ecology, Severn Estuary, Severn Bore and its impacts

 

Friday 26th May              

 

Beechenhurst- walk sculpture trail, SSSI, Woorgreen Lake (dragon flies)  Beechnehurst honeypot site, edge of a SSSI for lichens and bryophytes, walk the sculpture trail and take in Woorgreen lake (daubenton bats, kingfishers and dragon flies)

 

 

PM back to Moulton College      

 

Depart from Dean and arrive back to Moulton College early evening

Accomodation and meals are included.

 Payment Options:

1) Full Payment of £185.00

2) £50 Deposit No Later than 10th February 2023 followed by 3 Installments

  • Installment 1 £45 No Later than 3rd March 2023
  • Installment 2 £45 No Later than 7th April 2023
  • Installment 1 £45 No Later than 8th May 2023

 

The Deposit is non-returnable after 20th February, as accomodation and travel booking deposits will have been paid, and payment must be completed in full by the 8th May 2023

Students who have not paid the full balance will not be permitted to travel
